Flight cancelations, delays causing nightmare for travelers at Boston’s Logan Airport
Travelers are experiencing major delays at Boston’s Logan International Airport due to severe weather along the East Coast.
As of Friday morning, there were more than 100 delays and about 90 cancelations following thunderstorms that had popped up in various regions.
Passengers on Thursday spent a significant amount of time either waiting on planes for a gate or waiting inside the airport terminal for their delayed flight to depart.
There were nearly 500 delays reported Thursday and a slew of cancelations. The Federal Aviation Administration placed Boston in what’s known as a traffic management program for arriving flights and was delaying departures for over an hour.
At one point, the tarmac at Logan looked like a parking lot due to the gate issues.
“Some aircraft are halted at Logan due to weather in other destinations, especially along the East coast. Meaning the airports those planes are headed for are not accepting arrivals, therefore they can’t depart. This is pretty common during summer thunderstorms,” Massport said in a statement.
