Severe weather is possible later this week in the Evansville area. Here's what to know.

The weather forecast for later this week in the Evansville/Henderson area is going to sound familiar.

Rising temperatures, an increase in humidity and daily chances for heavy rain and a few severe thunderstorms.

If that seems like what the region experienced in the days leading up to the July 4 holiday, it is. That period saw nearly 200 weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service's Paducah, Ky., office, which monitors the Evansville area.

Nearly four inches of rain fell in that period, too, putting a dent in a drought.

Here's what the weather service is saying about this week's storm possibilities.

When is the best chance for severe weather in Evansville and Henderson?

Things should get started Wednesday. That's when the Storm Prediction Center has the region outlined in a "slight risk" zone for severe thunderstorms.

Daily chances for thunderstorms show up in the forecast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well, before retreating to a "slight chance" on Sunday.

What kind of severe weather is possible?

The forecasters' main concerns are for damaging winds and large hail. Heavy rain is also possible because the atmosphere will be so muggy.

Are there still drought conditions in the region?

Yes, but barely. Gibson, Posey and Vanderburgh counties are still listed in an "abnormally dry" zone, while other areas of Southern Indiana aren't listed at all.

How does the long-term forecast look?

The National Weather Service's 8- to 14-day forecast calls for above average tmperatures and above average rainfaill in the Ohio Valley.
