Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center Gallery to host quilt exhibit

·1 min read

May 8—Twenty-five "Ruby Ruby" challenge quilts will be on exhibit from May 25 to July 1 at the Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center Gallery, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta.

They are from the most recent challenge competition among East Cobb Quilters' Guild members this year.

The East Cobb Quilters' Guild has a long history of annual Guild quilt challenges. The quilts that will be on display were inspired by the Guild's recent 40th anniversary and a red color scheme was chosen based on the year's representative ruby stone. The theme for each year's challenge quilt evolves from a suggestion from the Challenge Quilt Committee that allows members to use their creativity, artistic talents and technical skills to represent their interpretations of the challenge theme. Rules are that the entry must represent the theme, fit the definition of a quilt, meet certain size parameters and meet a deadline. Each quilt on display will be accompanied by an artist's statement to tell about their journey from "inspiration to creation."

The opening reception for the "Ruby Ruby" exhibit will be May 26 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call for evening and weekend hours.
