Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have taken to social media to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sex and the City.

The comedy-drama, which followed the lives of best friends and dynamic New Yorkers Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes and Samantha Jones, first aired on June 6, 1998.

While the show ended after six seasons in 2004, it went on to spawn two Sex and the City feature films, a prequel show titled The Carrie Diaries, as well as the recent spin-off series And Just Like That.

Parker celebrated the milestone by sharing a photo of her iconic 'Carrie' necklace on Instagram, alongside the caption: "It's our silver anniversary but the memories will always be gold."

Nixon, who plays Miranda, posted a throwback photo of her character alongside a recent one, captioning it: "How it started [and] how it's going for Miranda Hobbes. I cannot believe Sex and the City premiered 25 years ago today.

"Before the show I never thought anything as big and wonderful as this could happen to me. And now I can't imagine my life without it! I know it holds a special place in so many of your hearts too, so thank you for watching."

Meanwhile, Davis posted a video montage of some clips from the show and wrote: "It is impossible to believe it has been 25 years! I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to be a part of this story that connects so many of us together. It has and continues to be a JOY! Thank you to all of you who have come along for the ride. We love you."

Kim Catrall, who played Samantha, is the only member of the four who hasn't yet acknowledged the anniversary.

The actress previously declined to reprise her role in And Just Like That following her public feud with Parker, but it was recently announced that she will now make a brief cameo in the show's second season.

And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City, airs on Max in the US and Sky Comedy and NOW in the UK.
