Sex Education is soon set to return to screens as Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for season 4.

Alongside the teaser, the streaming giant also unveiled the official cast for the upcoming season, but a surprising name was on the list.

Netflix has confirmed Rakhee Thakrar, who plays teacher Emily Sands, will be returning to the show, despite her previously claiming she wasn’t involved.

The former EastEnders actress spoke out about her time on Sex Education earlier this year, insisting she was not a part of the upcoming fourth season.

"I’m not part of the new series," she told Daily Star Sunday back in August 2022. "I can’t really talk about why. But I’m so proud of the show and grateful to have been part of something so important. There’s nothing bad about Sex Education."

Netflix has now confirmed to Digital Spy that Thakrar will feature in one episode of season 4 alongside Jim Howick, who plays fellow teacher Colin Hendricks.

Asa Butterfield, Gilian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Amiee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey and Connor Swindells are also set to return for season 4.

The new episodes will also welcome some new faces to the star-studded cast, including Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy and Doctor Who’s Thaddea Graham.

Netflix confirmed the new episodes are set to arrive on the streaming platform on September 24, but also revealed this will be the final season of the comedy drama.

In a heartfelt letter to fans, the show’s creator Laurie Nunn admitted ending the show was "not an easy decision to make".

"As the themes and stories of the new season crystallised, it became clear that this was the right time to graduate," she wrote.

"We are incredibly proud of Sex Education and feel indebted to our brilliant writers, cast and crew who put so much heart into making every episode. They have worked tirelessly to bring you the final series, and we can’t wait to share it with you."

Sex Education season 4 will arrive on Netflix on September 21. Seasons 1-3 are available to watch now.
