‘Sex/Life’ Canceled After Two Seasons At Netflix

Sex/Life, the Netflix drama series, has been canceled.

Variety reported that the Sarah Shahi-led series, which had two seasons before getting the axe, debuted its second season last March and followed Shahi’s character, an overworked mom who wishes for the carefree life she had in New York with her friend before getting married. She begins writing about her time with her ex to relive her glory days.

The series also stars Margaret Odette, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos, Darius Homayoun, Cleo Anthony, Li Jun Li, Jonathan Sadowski, Wallis Day, Craig Bierko and Joyce Rivera. Stacy Rukeyser created the series and serves as showrunner with Jordan Hawley and J. Miles Dale executive producing. The series is inspired by B.B. Easton’s 44 Chapters About 4 Men.

Shahi said on a Variety podcast that the second season was lacking in the type of support she received during the first season.

“I’m not going to put it down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show,” she said during the interview. “It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that. I struggled with the material. I just felt the thing that it had the first season–I mean, I’m never gonna work for Netflix again now after saying all this, but I can’t lie. And it was definitely a challenge.”

Shahi’s comments are the latest mark against Netflix, which has canceled fan favorites before with little reason, even with fan support. First Kill was recently famously cancelled even though fandom support for the series was strong.
