Sha’Carri Richardson Gives Jamaican Bronze Medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Her Flowers: ‘She’s An Amazing Athlete’

Sha’Carri Richardson won gold at the 100-meter finals in the 2023 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary. The 23-year-old athlete came in with a time of 10.65 seconds, placing her just ahead of Jamaican sprinters Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The three athletes celebrated their win together as they did a victory lap across the track. Richardson, Jackson and Fraser-Pryce shared a hug, took photographs together and congratulated each other on the race.

The American track-and-field star gave Fraser-Pryce her flowers during a news conference after the race.

“She’s an amazing athlete. I grew up watching her,” she told reporters, adding that the Jamaican athlete is an inspiration.

“It was going to take my best to come forward and be able to compete, knowing that she’s been doing this and can continue to be on the podium every single time. It shows me that I have a journey. I have something to do. I have more to do,” Richardson added. “Like she said, what makes this sport so fun or interesting is the fact that you can always do more. There’s always so much more that you can pull out of yourself and become better.”

Richardson has been vocal about standing up for her fellow athletes in track and field. She has been using her platform to advocate for fair pay and better public recognition of the sport.
