Sha’Carri Richardson Has A Track Named After Her: ‘I’m Literally Speechless’

Sha’Carri Richardson now has a track named after her. The Dallas Independent School District board voted to rename the Jesse Owens Athletic Complex’s John Kincaide Stadium as Sha’Carri Richardson Track on Thursday.

This change was made as “a tribute to Richardson’s remarkable achievements in sports and significant ties to the Dallas community,” according to the district’s website.

“This means so much,” she wrote on social media. “If you from the city, you know the stadium is rooted in memories. I’m literally speechless.”

The champion attended elementary school through high school in the Dallas district, according to NBC Sports. The track is located one mile south of Carter High School, where she was enrolled. Richardson won eight Texas state titles, including 100m races as a sophomore, junior and senior, and the 200m as a junior and senior.

Upon graduation, she attended Louisiana State University, where she won the NCAA 100m title as a freshman before going professional in 2019.

In August, Richardson won the 100m at the World Championships, recording 10.65. She also won the bronze medal in the 200m and helped Team USA win gold in the 4x100m relay.

The 23-year-old was recently nominated for the Female World Athlete of the Year 2023. She also attended the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin over the weekend, where she handed over plaques to podium finishers Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
