Shadow and Bone boss teases spin-off and show's future beyond season 2

Shadow and Bone has only just returned to Netflix for its anticipated second season, but showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind are already looking to expand the Grishaverse.
The fantasy drama's season-two finale basically ended where Leigh Bardugo's original book trilogy does, with Alina destroying the Fold and the Darkling's death.
In a departure from the books, though, Alina and Mal are sent on separate paths, and Alina seems to have acquired some of the Darkling's Shadow Summoning abilities.

If Netflix renews the show for season three, Heisserer and Fryklind plan to blend some of Bardugo's King of Scars duology with some new stories that aren't from the source material, which they're now able to do given the show's alternate ending.
"Thankfully we're creating brand-new material for actors that we know and love and trust who will carry the water for us on this," Heisserer told Entertainment Weekly.
"And it's weaving their story in with the King of Scars duology that we're already in love with, and what we think is going to come alive on screen from those. So it's a matter of stitching those in the way we've stitched in other characters in these first two seasons."

The pair are also planning to adapt Bardugo's Six of Crows into a spin-off series, but it all depends on Netflix and how well Shadow and Bone season two performs.
"One of the reasons, not all of them, that I got the privilege of working with Daegan Fryklind as co-showrunner in season two is that I was busy with the writers' room for Six of Crows. We are ready to launch that as its own story," Heisserer explained.
Six of Crows was partly explored in Shadow and Bone's season-two finale, but the showrunners said that the spin-off "would be its own little season of fun that our characters would get to be a part of".
Shadow and Bone seasons 1-2 are streaming on Netflix.
