Shakamak, Turkey Run, Shades, Raccoon to close for deer hunts

Nov. 1—Four Wabash Valley state outdoors areas will be closed to allow for controlled deer management hunts on Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced.

Eighteen state facilities will close for the hunts on those days, including Raccoon State Recreation Area, as well as Shades, Shakamak and Turkey Run state parks.

Other DNR properties set to close for the hunts are Cave River Valley Natural Area, Chain O'Lakes State Park, Clifty Falls State Park, Fort Harrison State Park, Harmonie State Park, Indiana Dunes State Park, Lincoln State Park, O'Bannon Woods State Park, Ouabache State Park, Prophetstown State Park, Spring Mill State Park, Tippecanoe River State Park, Versailles State Park and Whitewater Memorial State Park.

All DNR property rules and Indiana hunting regulations will be enforced, according to the DNR. Hunters are permitted to harvest deer only.

No other animals may be taken during the management hunt. Friends and family will not be permitted to wait for hunters on the property during the hunt periods.

In general, the parks will be closed to the general public starting from 8 p.m. Nov. 12 before the first hunt period through 8 a.m. Nov. 15; and 8 p.m. Nov. 26 before the second hunt period through 8 a.m. Nov. 29, following the second hunt period.

All hunters will need a photo ID to enter and exit the property.

Hunting hours are a half-hour before sunrise until 4 p.m. on the days of the hunts. Hunters may enter the field no earlier than 5:30 a.m.
