Shaker Heights Schools Plan In-Person Reopening For Late October
SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — With COVID-19 transmission declining in Cuyahoga County, the Shaker Heights Schools are planning a return to in-person instruction.
The district announced plans for a hybrid education model this week. Students will begin returning to classrooms in late October. However, a remote learning option will still be available for families who feel in-person education is unsafe.
Reopening plans will be discussed during the Board of Education work session on Tuesday. That session begins at 5 p.m.
"I encourage you to join us for this important session. Following the Board meeting, we will also share additional specifics as they become available," Shaker Superintendent David Glasner said.
The decision to reopen follows Cuyahoga County's four-week classification as "orange" for COVID-19 transmission. The county has also seen declining positivity rates on coronavirus tests and fewer COVID-19 cases.
The Cuyahoga County Board of Health recently issued safe reopening guidelines for schools. Shaker Schools officials said the district's reopening will mirror the county's health guidelines.
