That’s because it was the first official match in the soccer Premier League in Ukraine after the start of the full-scale war. Tipped to win, Shakhtar Donetsk unexpectedly failed to find the back of Kharkiv Metalist 1925’s net.

While Shakhtar had been predicted to come out on top, both teams looked capable of scoring during the game.

However, despite good efforts from Mykhailo Mudryk, Ivan Petryak, Georgy Sudakov, Serhiy Kryvtsov and Taras Stepanenko, luck was not on their side, and the game ended goalless.

The game itself took place in Kyiv at the Olympic stadium, without spectators in the venue. The Ukrainian Premier League was persuaded by the government to restart the national league in Ukraine as a morale booster for Ukraine’s public and troops.

Three more matches of the 1st round of the Premier League are also scheduled today: Zorya - Vorskla (begins at 15:00), Chernomorets - Veres (15:00), Kolos - Kryvbas (17:00).

Earlier, the 1+1 media group announced that it would broadcast UPL matches on its channels for free. The Premier League responded to this statement.
