Shakira is known for many things (her dancing, her one-of-a-kind voice, and her 2020 Superbowl performance to name a few), but we are especially fans of her perfectly tousled curls. While they've gone through many a transformation since the singer first stepped into the mainstream music scene in 2005 with Hips Don't Lie, her long, naturally curly locks have persevered and become a staple in her performances.

But, before you start getting envious thinking she just wakes up with that gorgeous texture, the star gave a reality check to her followers when she shared a pre-performance photo in 2018 with an estimated 22 clips in her hair with the caption "no one said it would be easy." Luckily her hairstylist, Cynthia Alvarez, has shared some more details on just how she does it. Keep reading for her favorite curl-enhancing products.

She uses anti-frizz and curl enhancing products.

Last August, Cynthia shared a picture of all of the products she was using on Shakira for her first American performance of her El Dorado World Tour saying, "I'm ready for major curl action." The spread included quite the collection of Dove products, all of which were curl or anti-frizz specific.

She touches up her curls with a curling iron.

While Shakira does have naturally curly hair, she touches up some of the more "lazy" pieces for an extra boost when needed. In both of Cynthia's product shots she showed a really skinny (it looks like a 1/4") curling iron.

She always uses a wide-tooth comb.

Both of Cynthia's product flat lays showed a wide-toothed comb. While she doesn't explain exactly how she uses it, hairstylists recommend using a wide-tooth comb on curly hair because it allows you to get out tangles without messing up too much of the curl pattern (aka your curls stay in tact and don't get all frizzy).

She clips down her curls while they dry.

From the looks of it, it seems that after putting product in Shakira's hair, Cynthia puts clips in to define more of the curl pattern and help tame any frizz that tends to happen when curls air dry.

She always protects her strands.

Among the products in Cynthia's lineup are several heat protectant sprays including Dove Smooth + Shine Heat Protectant Spray and Davines OI Oil. Both of these help to shield strands from heat damage that can strip hair of moisture—something curly textures are already lacking.
