Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was involved in an on-air argument with a Sky News presenter who asked about the fate of hospital patients and babies due to power being cut to Gaza.

In a live interview on Sky News, Bennett was asked by anchor Kamali Melbourne: "What about those in hospital who are on life support and babies in incubators whose life support and incubator will have to be turned off because the Israelis have cut the power to Gaza?"

The former Israeli PM angrily responded: "Are you seriously... asking me about Palestinian civilians? What is wrong with you?

"Have you not seen what happened? We’re fighting Nazis. We don’t target them. The world can come and bring them anything they want. If you want to bring them electricity...

"I’m not going to feed electricity and water to my enemies. If anyone else wants that’s fine. We’re not responsible for them."

As Melbourne tried to interject, Bennett added: "Shame on you, shame on you."

The Israeli government has ordered a "complete siege" of Gaza, cutting it off from access to fuel, food, water and electricity.

The move has prompted the International Community of the Red Cross (ICRC) to warn that hospitals in Gaza "risk turning into morgues" without electricity after the enclave's only power plant ran out of fuel Wednesday.

Fabrizio Carboni, ICRC regional director for the Near and Middle East, said in a statement: "As Gaza loses power, hospitals lose power, putting newborns in incubators and elderly patients on oxygen at risk. Kidney dialysis stops, and X-rays can’t be taken. Without electricity, hospitals risk turning into morgues."

But Israel has said there will be no humanitarian break to its siege until all of its hostages are freed.

Energy minister Israel Katz wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "No electrical switch will be lifted, no water hydrant will be opened and no fuel truck will enter until the Israeli hostages are returned home. Humanitarian for humanitarian. And nobody should preach us morals."

'Complete siege'

Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a "complete siege" of the Gaza strip on Monday, reportedly telling commanders: "There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed.

"We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly."

Evacuation ordered

In its latest operational update, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) urged people in Gaza City to evacuate in what it said was a "humanitarian step that IDF is taking to minimise civilian casualties".

Spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said a message had been sent to the local population in the city urging civilians to evacuate for their own city.

Reading the message, he said: "The Hamas terrorist organisation waged a war against the State of Israel and Gaza city is an area where military operations are taking place.

"This evacuation is for your own safety - you will be able to return to Gaza city only when another announcement permitting it is made."

Evacuees were urged to move south - not to approach the border with Israel.

The message added: "Hamas terrorists are hiding in Gaza city inside tunnels, underneath houses and inside buildings populated with innocent Gaza civilians.

"Civilians of Gaza city, evacuate south for your own safety and the safety of your families and distance yourself from Hamas terrorists for using you as human shields.

"IDF will continue to operate with significant force in Gaza city and will make extensive efforts to avoid harming civilians."
