A: At Points of Origin, LLC, our passion for authentic connection is evident in the clinical therapy, training and supervision experienced by our clients, clinicians, and emerging professionals. Our team specializes in undressing stigma and expectations and then teaching participants to take control of writing their own narrative. We also support the training and education of  other minorities called to serve in the field of mental health.

Q: What inspires you and why?

A: My clients inspire me. I’ve provided mental health services in some capacity since 2009, so it is not uncommon for me to experience what I recognize as my client’s energy and often energetically feel their experiences. It truly helps me to develop an authentic relationship with each of them and work to co-design treatment that is specific to them. As therapists, we truly serve as a portal of re-entry into the world in so many cases.

Q: What challenges have you faced and how did you persevere?

A: The greatest challenges I’ve faced are myself, the world, and perspective. So many societal messages encourage isolation through labels, expectation, and boxes. I have an understanding and respect for the language of communication, however in so many places, they encourage the dehumanization of humans and that feels uncomfortable. My solution is to honor myself and my authenticity, and to function with empathy  and respect for human nature & the community we are building.

Q: What advice do you have for other women in business?

A: My advice as a woman – a brown skin woman – is to be true to yourself and your gifts and be intentional on building community with people who have different gifts from you and are living their life passionately. Find beauty in the things you cannot change, the things that have tried to change you, and to be creatively optimistic and intentional in acquiring your individual needs. Survival is a must, and actualization needs to be more than just a desire.
