Shamokin woman jailed after alleged shooting incident

Jan. 11—SHAMOKIN — A Shamokin woman is jailed on $100,000 bail and faces felony aggravated assault charges after city police say she fired a weapon at a man Wednesday.

Nashay Destouet, 26, of Rock Street, appeared before Mount Carmel Judge Bill Cole on charges of felony aggravated assault Thursday before she was sent to Northumberland County Jail in lieu of bail.

Shamokin police said they were called to a Rock Street home for reports of shots fired at around 9:30 a.m.

Officers arrived and began an investigation that also lead to police allegedly finding a bullet casing, police said.

During the course of the investigation, the alleged victim came to the police station and spoke with officers and said he was in an argument with Destouet earlier in the day, police said.

Police spoke with the woman, and she also arrived at the police station where officers allege she told them she was in an altercation with the alleged victim but then she asked for an attorney, police said.

Police allege they reviewed video surveillance footage that showed the woman and the man talking and at one point the woman began to pull forward in a vehicle as if she was going to hit the man, police said.

Destouet will appear before Shamokin District Judge Bill Zalinski at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
