Shane Bieber to make rehab appearance against Mud Hens

Sep. 14—The Toledo Mud Hens will face the reigning American League Cy Young award winner to begin the final series of the Triple-A regular season.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Shane Bieber, a two-time All-Star and the 2020 AL Cy Young recipient, is scheduled to make a rehab start Tuesday against the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field. Game time is 6:35 p.m.

Bieber was placed on the 10-day injured list, then shifted to the 60-day IL with a strained right shoulder.

He led the AL in earned-run average (1.63) and strikeouts (122) during the abbreviated 2020 season. Bieber was named to the All-Star team in 2019 — and won the MLB All-Star Game MVP honors — and in 2021, despite being on the IL.

Before his injury, Bieber was 7-4 this season with a 3.31 ERA, and had a 12.9 strikeouts per nine rate.
