Shanghai residents protest COVID lockdown order

STORY: Earlier this week, images from the same compound in downtown Jing'an district went viral on Chinese social media after around 40-50 residents staged an impromptu protest on Monday after hearing of the impending lockdown.

In front of a heavy police presence angry residents demanded more information from officials and the removal of yellow barriers which they felt were a huge fire risk, a fact highlighted by a large fire which took place in a neighbouring compound on the same day. The group of residents went on to remove the yellow barriers themselves and they have not since been replaced.
