"Thank you so much for presenting me with this award and for highlighting my work as having a significant impact," Twain said after accepting the award, presented to her by Billy Porter. "That's always my wish, to inspire people with my music."

"From a very young age I turned to songwriting as a form of escapism, this is my go-to place, it never occurred to me how powerful lyrics can become when you're able to record them and share them with the whole world. It's a great honour to be respected as a songwriter, but the biggest honour for me is knowing that people have somehow found strength and inspiration in what I had to say in my work... I just want to say, giddy up kids, embrace your individuality and your crazy ideas. Just be brave. Let's remember there is power in numbers, we are in this together, love is love, and when a door slams in your face, take a freaking run, just run and leap at that door and kick it down. You won't regret it."

Ryan Reynolds just doesn't impress Shania Twain

Just before accepting the Music Icon Award, Twain performed of medley of her hit songs, including "Any Man Of Mine," "That Don't Impress Me Much," "Waking Up Dreaming" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman."

In "That Don't Impress Me Much," Twain made the song even more Canadian by changing some of the lyrics. The iconic tune has a line that goes, "OK, so you're Brad Pitt. That don't impress me much." But for her People's Choice Awards performance, Twain changed the lyrics to "OK, so you're Ryan Reynolds. That don't impress me much."

Luckily, the cameras were able to catch the actor's surprised reaction as he laughed at the line change.

"I can’t think of a more iconic, smart and beautiful person to not impress all that much. Thank you for an amazing night," Reynolds tweeted out after the show, in response to Twain tweeting out the clip with a "sorry not sorry" message.

Several people have taken to social media to respond to the fantastically Canadian moment, including actor Tara Reid, among other fans of Twain and Reynolds.
