Share the Warmth blanket drive underway

NEW CASTLE – The United Way of Lawrence County, in partnership with Columbia Gas, is holding its annual "Share the Warmth" blanket drive this month.

Community groups, agencies, and local schools collect new blankets to distribute to families who are facing challenges in heating their homes.

“Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is committed to keeping our community safe and warm this winter season. We are humbled by the generosity of our employees, the community and the United Way as everyone joins together to donate blankets for this important cause," said Scott Waitlevertch, manager of government and public affairs for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania.

This blanket drive will take place through Nov. 30. Businesses that are serving as drop-off sites include The Confluence, Don Services, Lawrence County Government Center, Lawrence County YMCA and Y-Zone, New Castle Public Library, state Rep. Chris Sainato, United Way of Lawrence County, Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce, New Wilmington Municipal Building, and Papa Gelateria- New Wilmington. The Lawrence County high schools that are participating include Lawrence County Career and Technical Center, Neshannock, New Castle and Shenango.

The blankets will be sorted by students at Shenango High School in December and distributed to various agencies, such as Children’s Advocacy, Holy Redeemer Church, Arise, Cray Youth and Family Services, Salvation Army, People in Need, Catholic Charities, City Rescue Mission and more.

Gayle Young, executive director of United Way of Lawrence County, said, “We appreciate the sponsorship of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, the school districts, businesses, and the community for helping so many of our families in Lawrence County with a new blanket.”
