Sharon edges Hermitage, 5-4, to win Pa. District 2 Major Division crown

Jul. 14—Coen Fertig scored on Logan Perks' double, leading Sharon to a 5-4 walk-off win over Hickory for the Pa. District 2 Major Division championship.

At Hermitage Little League's Strosser Field, Fertig led off the 6th stanza with a single, then beat the throw to the plate on Perks' double to the right-center field gap.

Hickory assumed a 3-run lead in top of the 1st frame, but Sharon responded with 3 runs in the inning's bottom half. Sharon took a 4-3 lead in the 2nd inning on Jazya Hueston's single, which scored Ghafir Lampkins. Hickory squared the slate at 4 in the 6th on Kyle Walton's 2-out, RBI-single, scoring Ryan Manzo.

In the 1st, Jack White's 2-run double scored Kyle Walton and Roman Golub. White scored on a passed ball for Hickory. Sharon's scores resulted from a passed ball and RBI singles by Iren Brodie and Kelvin Newby.

In the top of the 6th with 2 outs Sharon's Santino Gavin threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate.

Fertig forged the Tigers to victory. He pitched a 6-inning, complete game giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5. He aided his own cause by ripping 3 singles. Also for Sharon, Perks singled and doubled, Hueston had 2 singles, and Litman, Brodie, Kelvin Newby, Joey Hassan and Jeremiah Nixon singled.

For Hermitage White started on the mound and pitched 3 innings, yielding 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while whiffing 2. Sean Cummings threw the final 3 innings, permitting a run on a handful of hits and 2 walks. He also struck out 2. Offensively for the Hornets Walton doubled and singled twice, White doubled and singled, and Luke Patton, Anthony Jordan and Kyler Slevin singled.
