Sharon's Small Business Saturday reaping big rewards

Nov. 21—SHARON — Small Business Saturday is looking big in Sharon.

This national day was created to boost holiday shopping at small retailers.

The 2nd Annual Shopper's Delight Christmas Market in Sharon — a special pop-up artisan marketplace will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. inside the former Army/Navy Store, 47 E. State St., next to Veterans Bridge.

"The purpose of the pop-up market is to help draw more people to downtown Sharon," Sherris Moreira, Sharon's director of downtown development said. Getting foot traffic into the normally empty downtown space is also a way to help fill that space in the future, Moreira added.

"The additional foot traffic will also help support our restaurants and shops as well," she said.

The market will include live music with Max Schang & Uke Kool Lady Paulette Darko. There will be lots of shopping options, vendor giveaways, kids' activities plus for every market purchase, visitors will get a chance to win a $100 gift card to the Sharon business of choice.

Free Daffin's Candy bars will go to the first 100 entries. Outside OH Donut will have their mobile donut and hot drink bar.

Costumer characters will be strolling the downtown such as such as local mascots, elves and the Grinch.

The traditional tree lighting ceremony begins at 5 p.m. near the First National Bank office with live entertainment. Santa will arrive on a Sharon Fire Department fire truck with Boy Scout Troop 3 of The Shenango Valley, offering Daffin's Candy bars as treats for kids.

During the tree lighting event the area will be blocked off to traffic between Emerald Tablet and The Winner building from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Fireworks will end the event over the bridge sponsored by US Asset Management LLC, Pittsburgh.
