Sharp metal impales Jeep windshield in Maine. See photos of the terrifying close call

A woman was driving south on the Maine Turnpike when a sharp chunk of metal blasted through her Jeep windshield, terrifying photos show.

The 21-year-old’s close call on Sept. 5 came as the driver in front of her ran over the metal debris — sending it flying into the air and landing inches from her face in the town of Gray, according to a Maine State Police news release.

Photos shared by authorities show the piece of metal embedded in the woman’s windshield, with its sharp tip hovering over the steering wheel and pointed directly toward the driver’s seat.

The woman, who was from New Hampshire, pulled over on the side of the road and was found with minor injuries when paramedics arrived, according to police.

“Troopers safely reunited her with her family upon leaving the crash scene,” the release said.

The metal collision caused one turnpike lane to close down for about one hour, according to authorities.

“This is terrifying,” CBS News Boston producer Meagan Kolkmann wrote Sept. 5 on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to a Maine State Police post of the crash.

Gray is about 20 miles northeast of Portland, Maine.
