My hairdresser told me to stop using my plastic brush and to use this kind instead

I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for about four years, and since then, I’ve asked her many questions about making my hair look its best. She is an expert, after all! Last year, I noticed that she and everyone in her salon used a Tangle Teezer on wet hair straight from the sinks. When I asked her about it, she said she prefers to use those on wet hair only and that if I was looking to buy a new brush, I should invest in one with boar bristles.

Bristles made with boar hair are great for people with fine to medium hair. Genuine boar hair contains keratin, and when used in a brush, it can help distribute your scalp’s natural oils throughout your hair, stimulate growth by massaging the scalp and close the cuticle of your hair to make it smoother and look shinier.

The problem is that genuine boar bristle brushes are pretty pricey. The famous Mason Pearson brush retails for about $275! However, I found one on Amazon that’s a boar bristle and nylon combo that’s less than $40 on Amazon. Many reviewers say it’s similar to the Mason Pearson one, too.

According to the product description, the SHASH Nylon Boar Bristle Brush is for normal to thick hair. It has a wood handle and comes in three sizes. More than 1,800 Amazon shoppers give it a five-star rating and rave about how great it is at detangling and smoothing their hair.

“Within just a couple weeks of using this brush the health of my hair and scalp has improved immensely!” wrote one Amazon reviewer. “I was looking for a Mason Pearson dupe with mixed nylon and boar bristles. The nylon pins help with tangles and stimulating the scalp, and the boar bristles help smooth frizz and distribute oils from the scalp to the mid shaft and ends. I notice that my scalp is less itchy and my hair overall is more shiny with less frizz.”

Wow, just wow,” wrote another. “Got this and upon first use it made my hair look celebrity A-list worthy. Got rid of frizz and made my hair look shiny and picture perfect. Speechless. I’m hooked and understand and now what all the hype is about!!! Will def purchase more for family and friends.”

I replaced my plastic one with a boar bristle brush, just like this one from my local beauty store, and it’s my new favorite. My hair does, in fact, look smoother compared to when I used my plastic paddle brush. A friend even commented on how healthy my hair looked the other day. Who would have thought a brush could make such a difference?
