Interstate 5 lanes, ramps near Weed to close during paving project

Thursday, July 6, 2023

Motorists traveling north from Shasta County may face delays due to lane closures and traffic controls on a stretch of the Interstate 5 corridor in Siskiyou County, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Starting Monday, July 10, Caltrans District 2 and J.F. Shea Construction begin work on a $2.3 million paving project on northbound and southbound lanes on the highway near Weed, Caltrans announced. The project covers a stretch of highway from just south of the I-5 junction with Highway 97, to just north of the North Edgewood overhead near the Weed rest areas. The project doesn't include bridge decks in the area, Caltrans said in the announcement.

Caltrans asked that motorists drive carefully in the area, and to watch for signs announcing reductions in speed limits and crews working on the road. Travel plans should include possible delays during lane, shoulder and ramp closures, the agency said.

Planners estimate crews will finish the paving project by mid-August, Caltrans reported.

For more information go to the Caltrans District 2 website at dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-2 or call 530-225-3426.
