Suspect in standoff on Mineral School Road near Oak Run wounded in police shooting

Law enforcement officers responded to an active shooter at Mineral School Road, where there were possible hostages being held at a home, according to scanner traffic.

Vehicles involved include a tan SUV with a broken window and a gold sedan.

Scanner traffic said a man was in the road pointing a rifle at passers-by.

4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5

Shasta County Sheriff's spokesman Timothy Mapes said a male suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting and was taken to a hospital in Redding. He was unable to confirm the extent of the suspect’s injuries.

No other people and no law enforcement officials were injured.

Mapes said there is no public safety threat, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5

A reconnaissance plane and the Redding Police Department's BearCat armored vehicle were seen leaving the Oak Run area. However, police and paramedics are still at the scene.

2:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 5

Police are trying to make contact with the suspect as there is "no cell service" in the area, according to scanner traffic.

So far, one chopper, six Shasta County sheriff's vehicles, two Cal Fire vehicles, one U.S. Forest vehicle and paramedics from Dignity Health have responded to the incident. The Redding Police Department's BearCat — a SWAT armored vehicle — is also reportedly headed to the area.

Authorities on the scene were heard telling the suspect to "put the rifle down."

2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5

A man is forcing people into a vehicle, at Oak Run and Mineral School Road, according to police. The suspect appeared "agitated," according to police. The suspect is a white male wearing a black shirt with brown hair and "appears to have some training," according to police.Police are requesting "armored backup."

A Record Searchlight reporter is headed to the scene.
