Shawnee Noon Optimists honor students

Mar. 1—SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — As spring arrives and graduation looms large on the minds of high school seniors, Shawnee Noon Optimists took time Wednesday to recognize those students about to move on who have demonstrated a desire to perform at their very best.

The Optimist Club used recommendations from school counselors and teachers to make their 22 selections for Students of Honor and Achievement. Students honored were from Apollo Career Center, Lima Central Catholic, Perry High School and Shawnee High School.

Some students have college plans laid out. Justin Davisson knows he will be attending Ohio Northern University next year where he plans to study criminal justice. His ultimate plan is to be a prosecuting attorney. But not all seniors have everything figured out.

Many students change majors and careers several time throughout their lives. Austin Greer, who is in his second year studying fire and EMS technology, doesn't have a solid plan but he has options. He races cars at Shady Bowl in DeGraff. His current plans are to go to UNOH for the high performance program. Eventually he will make a career choice between being a firefighter or being involved in racing.

The honored students are choosing college, vocational training, military service or joining the workforce, exploring options and making decisions with the current information they have on hand.

Shawnee Noon Optimist Club honored the following students: from Apollo, Nate Buell, Austin Greer, Tyler Lauck, Chloe Sharp and Kira Sharp; from Lima Central Catholic Olivier Bruno, Gabriel Cira, Justin Davisson, Bridget Mulcahy and Olivia Stolly; from Perry, Elijah Caudill, Bryce James, Grant Miller, Danaisha Patton and Rhema Pernell; and from Shawnee, Orinayo Akomolafe, Benjamin Bullock, Rodger Burden III, Lauren Niesen and Taylor Shema.
