She Did It Again! Hamlin's Gracelyn Leiseth breaks her own state shot put record in Region 2A meet

Hamlin junior standout Gracelyn Leiseth had another big day Wednesday in the Region 2A high school track and field meet at Elkton, breaking her all-time state record in the shot put with a toss of 49 feet, 3.25 inches. She broke the state record recently at Howard Wood with a throw of 48-11. She also set meet records in the shot put and discus (150-4).

ELKTON — Another record-setting by Hamlin junior Gracelyn Leiseth spearheaded the performance of area athletes Wednesday in the Region 2A high school track and field meet.

Flandreau repeated as the girls division champion in the seven-team meet, winning by a 154-150.5 margin over Sioux Valley. Elkton-Lake Benton won the boys division with 125.5 points. Deubrook Area, Deuel and Great Plains Lutheran also competed.

Leiseth set meet records in winning the girls' shot put and discus and upgraded her all-time state record in the shot  put to 49 feet, 3.25 inches. She set the state record with a throw of 48 feet, 11 inches earlier this month at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. She also won the discus with toss of 150-4.

Adison Renkly and Kamryn Schwartz of Sioux Valley also had big days. Renkly swept the hurdle (100 and 300 meter) races and ran on the winning 400 relay. Schwartz won the long and triple jumps and also ran on the 400 relay that included Kalista King and Reagan Johnson.

Other area event winners in the girls division included Addison Timmons of Deuel (200 dash), Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley (3,200 run), Emma Gorvin of Sioux Valley (high jump) and Alyson Hagberg of Deuel (pole vault).

Great Plains Lutheran won the medley with school-record time of 4:32.48. Runners included Keturah Schleusener, Kim Goens, Kate Holmen and Halle Bauer. Bauer also set a school record in the 1,600 run, taking second with a time of 5:21.9.

Deubrook Area won the 1,600 relay with Brooke Koppatschek, Kadence Bowne, Kylee Johnson and Ellie Olsen.

In the boys division, Ricky Berndt of Deuel won the 800 and 3,200 runs. Other area winner were Treven Grimsrud of Deubrook Area (400 dash), Jaxon Quail of Deubrook Area (1,600 run), Jakob Guthmiller of Sioux Valley (high jump), Tague Tvedt of Deuel (pole vault) and Cristian Rodriguez of Hamlin (shot put).

Gavin Landmark, Parker Crooks and Landen Johnson each ran on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relays for Deubrook Area. Grimsrud also ran the 1,600 and J.P. Rogness the 3,200.

Sioux Valley won the 400 (Donovan Rose, David Knutson, Connor Gross and Caleb Murphy) and medley (Boden Schiller, Knutson, Gross and Brock Christopherson) relays.

Other multiple individual-event winners included Flandreau's Alex Anderson  (boys' 100 and 200 dashes), Elkton-Lake Benton's Isaac Jaacks (boys' 110 and 300 hurdles), Elkton-Lake Benton's Tanner Drietz (boys' long and triple jumps) and Flandreau's Faith Wiese (girls' 800 and 1,600 runs).
