'She didn't deserve that': Man takes plea in 2020 murder of security guard in Boynton Beach

WEST PALM BEACH — A judge has sentenced a Greenacres man to 50 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty Tuesday to a murder charge in the 2020 shooting death of a security guard while she was on duty at a community near Boynton Beach.

Jones Philippe, 25, pleaded to a lesser offense of second-degree murder during a hearing before Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gillen. Prosecutors said in court that Philippe shot and killed 18-year-old Dorianne Revol early on the morning of May 9, 2020, in an apparent dispute over money.

Revol's mother told Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office investigators she heard the dispute and the gunfire while talking with her daughter by cellphone.

The Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office initially charged Philippe with first-degree murder in the death of Revol, who was working at Plantina, a community near Boynton Beach Boulevard and Military Trail, at the time of her death.

Mother says she heard argument about money before shooting

During Tuesday's hearing, Philippe read a brief statement in court, expressing remorse for his actions.

"From the bottom of my heart, I'm really sorry for killing Dorianne," he said. "I shamed my community, I shamed my family and, most of all, I shamed myself. I will always regret pulling that trigger because she didn't deserve that. Her friends and family didn't deserve that."

Revol's family did not speak at the hearing, but Assistant State Attorney Chrichet Mixon told Gillen that Revol's parents were in agreement with the plea deal.

During the initial investigation, Revol's mother told sheriff's detectives that she was speaking to her daughter on the telephone late on the night of May 8 when she heard a heated verbal exchange on the other end of the line between Revol and a male in what appeared to be a dispute about money.

She heard a man, who investigators later identified as Philippe, tell Revol, "I should shoot you."

She told investigators her daughter called a couple of hours later to report that Philippe had returned and described hearing a fight on the other end of the line, followed by the sound of gunfire.

Deputies responding to the scene found Revol dead inside the guard house. It was just three days shy of her 19th birthday.

At Tuesday's hearing, Philippe also pleaded guilty to armed burglary in Revol's death, as well as to charges in three separate cases, including attempted murder in the stabbing of a fellow inmate at the Palm Beach County Jail in May.

Gillen ordered concurrent but not coterminous sentences to Philippe' 50-year prison term, crediting him with three years and nearly nearly months of time served while awaiting trial.
