She’s a serial public pooper, MA cops say. Lawyer calls her a ‘pillar of the community’

The owner of a Massachusetts sporting goods store was dumbfounded for nearly three months as he routinely found feces in his parking lot. But the mess wasn’t from a furry critter, as toilet paper or wipes accompanied the feces.

Wednesday, the alleged pooping miscreant was caught in the act, according to multiple media accounts. Andrea Grocer, 51, is accused of defecating at least eight times in the parking lot of Natick Outdoor Store, according to The MetroWest Daily News.

An investigation was launched last month in the town around 20 miles from Boston when Henry Kanner kept finding piles of human feces in the parking lot of his store, WHDH-TV reported.

Police upped their patrol in the area, leading to an officer stalking the store’s parking lot Wednesday, WYCN-TV reported. The officer noticed Grocer create a barrier with her SUV’s door to do her business around 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Boston TV station said. Grocer drove off after she did the deed, and the officer then found the feces at the location, the station said.

When the officer pulled Grocer over, she said she has irritable bowel syndrome and apologetically told the officer she would no longer defecate in the parking lot, WYCN reported. Asked why she didn’t go to the nearby Dunkin’ or Roche Brothers to use the restroom, Grocer replied that she would next time, according to WHDH.

Grocer was arrested and charged with eight counts of wanton destruction of property.

“I’m so happy they arrested her,” Kanner told The MetroWest Daily News. “I have no idea who she is. This has been ongoing. She has defecated quite often over here. There’s nothing more disgusting coming into your parking lot in the morning and seeing a pile of human excrement.”

The incidents began in October and became more frequent in January, as Grocer has used the store parking lot to relieve herself four times since Jan. 8, WHDH said. Each of the incidents occurred between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

During Grocer’s arraignment Wednesday, her lawyer described her as a “pillar of the community,” The MetroWest Daily News reported. She was released without bail Wednesday and is due back in court in March, MetroWest said.

She works as a nanny just four blocks away from the store, WHDH reported.

“She takes care of business whether it’s raining out, whether it’s snowing out,” Kanner told WYCN. “Why would someone do this? And it turns out she works up the street.”

Grocer is far from the first serial pooper. In 2017, a female jogger in Colorado dubbed the “Mad Pooper” was dropping her No. 2s on her runs for nearly two months.

The superintendent of a New Jersey school district was caught after pooping at the high school’s football field “on a daily basis.” He was since been called the “Pooperintendent.”

A forensic psychologist at Birmingham City University told BBC in 2018 that rage, anxiety, a desire to send a message, alcohol or illness could all be responsible for the actions of serial poopers.

“It’s interesting,” said Mike Berry. “I’ve worked on cases where burglars have crapped in the house - and I always ask the police whether it’s soft or hard. They look at me like I’m absolutely mad. And I say, if it’s soft, then it’s somebody who’s anxious, so you get a kid who goes and craps on the bed. And if it’s really hard stool then it’s an indication of somebody who’s angry and bitter about what he’s doing.”

It’s not clear what category Grocer falls under. Berry added to BBC that someone who commits the act in the same place is likely doing it to send a message.
