While a dog named Kardashian spent months with a Texas animal shelter, her family thought she was dead.

“I never thought to see her again,” her owner Dellys told Austin Animal Center staff. That’s because a neighbor told her family that Kardashian had died.

But Kardashian actually arrived at the shelter as a stray in June 2022, according to a video shared on Facebook. Shelter staff named her “Juicee.”

About six months later, the shelter staff posted “100 adoptable dogs” to its Spanish-language Facebook page. One of those dogs was Juicee.

“We have a Spanish-language Facebook page called Mascotas de Austin that provides information on how to be a responsible pet owner and the free programs provided by City of Austin Animal Services,” Austin Animal Center public health educator Luis Herrera said in an April 21 news release.

Herrera’s post about the dogs in need was then shared to a “Cubanos de Austin Facebook group” — Cubans of Austin, officials said.

Someone recognized “the unique-looking pitbull mix” going by the name Juicee and reached out to Dellys and her family.

That’s when Dellys reached out to the Austin Animal Center on Facebook, saying she had seen a photo of her dog once thought to be dead.

“Dellys, her partner, and her toddler now live in Miami but they dropped everything to drive the 20 hours to Austin to pick up Kardashian,” shelter staff said.

The dog’s emotional reunion — after 301 days with Austin Animal Center — was captured on video.

“Juicee was unsure of strangers while she was in the shelter, but the second she saw her family, she was all tail wags and smiles,” Herrera said in the release.

Juicee, or Kardashian, got the front passenger seat for the 1,350 mile ride to her new home in Florida.
