SHEBOYGAN - Starting May 2, a new cafe in Sheboygan will offer people a free meal and coffee "without judgment or discrimination."

Sheboygan County Food Bank's Community Cafe will open that day inside St. Luke United Methodist Church, 623 Ontario Ave.

Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays at the site, which will also offer information and resources to help residents, including Wi-Fi.

The food bank will provide ingredients and funding, along with a cafe coordinator. Volunteers will cook and serve the meals.

On Wednesdays, representatives from organizations will be invited to attend to share community resources.

The cafe is the culmination of months of collaboration among the food bank, churches, nonprofits and government agencies. Groups had been independently offering meals on Saturdays or to-go lunches, and the cafe aims to offer a more consistent and larger-scale meal service.

More details are at sheboygancountyfoodbank.com. The food bank distributes free and healthy emergency food to its network of 16 food pantries, community meals, shelters and other partner organizations throughout Sheboygan County.
