Sheboygan fire at Eighth Street apartment displaces 1 resident, causes $8K in damages

SHEBOYGAN — Sheboygan Fire Department was responding to a structure fire on North Eighth Street that displaced one person Wednesday.

A call was made to the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center at around 9 a.m. Wednesday reporting an apartment fire in the 1000 block of North Eighth Street. The first of eight units responded within two minutes of receiving the call, the department said in a news release.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and searched the building for remaining occupants on the second floor after finding heavy smoke and heat. Crew members were still ventilating the building and checking for hot spots around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but the department estimated $8,000 in damages. No civilians or responders were injured. Sheboygan Fire Department was supported by the Sheboygan Police Department.

The fire department reminded people to check smoke detectors and have an exit plan for their residences.
