Sheboygan's Night Market kicks off this week and Fourth of July is just around the corner. Here's your weekly dose.

SHEBOYGAN - Summer has arrived in Sheboygan.

The Night Market season kicks off this week and the annual Independence Day celebration is just around the corner.

Here are five stories to catch up on, including more about those two events, in your weekly dose.

1. Night Market season kicks off at City Green

The third annual Night Market season kicks off Friday at City Green, 710 New York Ave., Sheboygan.

The market will feature live music, a variety of local crafters and makers, a family zone, and food trucks.

Admission is free.

The market runs 4-9 p.m. and other Night Market dates are July 29 and Aug. 26.

2. Get ready for Fourth of July

Sheboygan’s Fourth of July celebration includes events July 3-4. Here’s a look at what’s planned:

July 3

  • Venetian Boat Parade — Begins at dusk on the Sheboygan riverfront.

  • Venetian Boat Parade viewing party — 4-9:30 p.m. at Angler’s Avenue, 518 S. Pier Drive. Will include music by DJ Rockin’ DM.

July 4

  • Sheboygan Y Freedom Run — 7:30 a.m. start at the Sheboygan YMCA, 812 Broughton Drive.

  • Independence Day Parade — 9:30 a.m. start at North Eighth Street and Center Avenue going to Michigan Avenue and then to Broughton Drive.

  • Music in the Park — Begins at noon in Fountain Park, 1000 N. Eighth St.

  • Freedom Fest — Runs noon-11 p.m. at Deland Park, 715 Broughton Drive, and includes live music, food and activities. Live music lineup: 2:30 p.m., Bare Bones Blind; 5 p.m., Drugstore Cowboys; and 7:30 p.m., Sam Guyton & Generation Z.

  • Live music and brat fry — At Harbor Lights, 434 Pennsylvania Ave. Music includes Doozey at 2 p.m. and Liquid Crush at 6 p.m.

  • Live music with DJ Rockin’ DM — At Angler’s Avenue, 518 S. Pier Drive, from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

  • Fireworks — Show starts at 9:30 p.m. with fireworks launched from barges between North Pier and South Pier.

3. A Million Dreamz holds community workdays

A Million Dreamz, the nonprofit that plans to open a 24/7 all-inclusive childcare facility in the former Sheboygan Christian School building by the end of the year, will hold community workdays June 23-24 at 415 Euclid Ave., Sheboygan.

The workdays will run 4-8 p.m. June 23 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. June 24.

“We invite you to come share some laughs and good company while using your strengths and abilities to help A Million Dreamz with some tasks around our building,” a news release said. “This may be moving things, light demolition, gardening tasks and other work duties per request. Snacks and beverages provided! No amount of time is too little! We look forward to seeing you!”

4. Vets groups to raise funds for canines

A brat fry benefiting Sheboygan County canine units will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 23 at Fleet Farm, 3110 Eastern Ave., in Plymouth, and VFW Post 9156, 552 S. Evans St., in Sheboygan.

Four veterans units are coming together for the first time for this event: Sheboygan County Marine Corps League, the VFW Post 9156, the American Legion Post 83 and the American Legion Post 555.

Sheboygan County has seven canines that cost thousands of dollars to train and maintain.

5. Acuity wins 2022 BBB Torch Award for Ethics

Acuity Insurance, with headquarters in Sheboygan, has been named a 2022 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics winner.

A Torch Award is the most prestigious honor BBB presents to businesses that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to integrity and ethical practices.

“We are tremendously honored to be recognized by BBB with a Torch Award for Ethics and hope that our ethical business practices are an inspiration to others,” said Acuity President and CEO Ben Salzmann in a news release.

Acuity’s selection as a winner from the BBB was based on an independent panel of judges composed of business and community leaders who evaluated the insurer’s commitment to ethics across the areas of character, culture, customers and community.

Acuity Insurance insures more than 125,000 businesses, including 300,000 commercial vehicles, and nearly a half million homes and private passenger autos across 30 states. It employs more than 1,500 people.
