SHEBOYGAN - United States Postal Service will host job fairs across Wisconsin April 11 looking to fill more than 380 vacant positions.

The fair will run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. that day at the Sheboygan Post Office, 522 N. Ninth St., Sheboygan. The office will have computers available for people to use to file immediate applications.

Postal representatives will also be present to help answer questions about the application process.

Available positions include associate rural carrier and rural carrier assistant; automotive technician; city carrier assistant; mail handler assistant; mail processing clerk; maintenance; part-time city carrier; and tractor-trailer operator.

Starting pay depends on the position and starts at $17.32 per hour.

All job fairs are open to anyone interested in a Postal career. Applications are also accepted online at www.usps.com/careers. Applicants must be 18 or older and be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check. They must also be available to work on weekends and holidays.

Sheboygan art educator earns Distinguished Alumni Award at Carroll University: Sheboygan’s Frank Juárez, a 1997 graduate of Carroll University in Waukesha, has received the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement – College of Arts and Sciences from the university.

Juárez is an award-winning art educator, artist, author, publisher and former gallery director. He has two decades of art education and arts management experience organizing local and regional art exhibitions, community art events, facilitating presentations, supporting artists through grant programs, and leading professional development workshops for artists. This has placed him in the forefront of promoting Wisconsin artists, networking, and attracting regional and national artists to collaborate and exhibit in Wisconsin.

Juárez is involved in the Wisconsin Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association, and the National Art Education Foundation. He has served on the following arts organizations: Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, Create Wisconsin (formerly Arts Wisconsin), and the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

He has presented at local universities, colleges, galleries, and artist groups on Professional Practices for Artists: Business of Art. He is the founder of two projects focused on contemporary art and art education called the Midwest Artist Studios Project and the 365 Artists 365 Days Project.

Juárez is the art department chairman at Sheboygan North High School, publisher of Artdose Magazine, and contributing editor of SchoolArts magazine. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1997 and teacher certification in 2000 from Carroll University and completed his master’s in educational leadership from Marian University in 2004.

He served as a member of the Carroll University Art Advisory Council from 2010 through 2012, and since 2022, he has been on the Carroll University Wisconsin Art Collection Advisory Board. Carroll University has also exhibited Juárez’s art in 2010, 2012 and 2015.

He has received the 2015 Wisconsin Art Education Association Teacher of the Year and the 2016 National Art Education Association Wisconsin Art Educator of the Year awards.

In 2018, he was elected to serve on the National Art Education Foundation Board of Trustees and was the recipient of the 2018 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellows Award.

In 2019, he was the recipient of the National Secondary Art Educator Award.

In 2021, he joined the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Board of Directors.

Recently, he was the recipient of the Wisconsin Visual Art Achievement Award for K-12 Art Education, was elected as the National Art Education Foundation Communications Chair, and is a member of the National Art Education Association Connected Arts Network.

Juárez will be honored by President Cindy Gnadinger and the Carroll Alumni Council during a ceremony and dinner May 17.

Mead Library to host screening, panel discussion on early childhood education April 11: Sheboygan’s Mead Library and United Way of Sheboygan County are offering a screening of the documentary “No Small Matter,” which explores the value high-quality early childhood education brings to a community and highlights the challenges faced by those working in the industry.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring local experts in the early childhood field.

The program will be 5-8 p.m. April 11 in the library’s Rocca Room. Food and refreshments will be provided. Childcare is available on a limited basis. Call Terri at Family Connections to reserve a child’s spot, 920-457-1999. The library is at 710 N. Eighth St., Sheboygan.

Family Service Association to host murder mystery dinner fundraiser April 22: Family Service Association of Sheboygan is hosting its inaugural fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. April 22 at The Bull in Sheboygan Falls.

“Midnight at the Masquerade, A Murder Mystery Dinner,” will be an evening of intrigue, suspense and delicious food, according to a news release.

The association oversees two non-profits — Consumer Credit Counseling Service, which provides financial education/counseling to groups or individuals as it relates to budgeting, student loans, housing, bankruptcy, identity theft and debt repayment plans; and Advocacy Programs of Sheboygan, which provides guardianships, rep payee services including spending plans, paying bills, filing assistance with Social Security, VA, county agencies, trust, POA and estate services.

Sheboygan's Harbor Centre BID plans ‘Spring Clean-up’ on Earth Day April 22: Harbor Centre Business Improvement District’s “Spring Clean-up” will be on Earth Day, from 9 until 11 a.m. April 22, in all three of the BID’s districts: Downtown, Riverfront and South Pier.
