The Sheetz gas station and store on East Main Street in Kent is undergoing renovation.

What at first looks like a demolition is merely a remodel.

The Sheetz at 1762 E. Main St. in Kent will be back, according to Ryan Balko, regional engineering/permit project manager for Sheetz.

The multimillion-dollar work being done is intended to bring the Main Street site up to date with the rest of the stores in the interstate chain, Balko said in an email.

"Sheetz remodels a number of stores each year so that we are current with providing the same offerings and brand awareness that we are able to provide with our new stores," Balko wrote.

As long as the weather cooperates (a tall order in Northeast Ohio) and the work stays on track, Balko projects the store will reopen in late March or early April 2023.

In addition to the store itself, the underground infrastructure is being updated.

"The underground storage tanks, associated piping, and fuel pumps will be removed and replaced with all new equipment," wrote Balko.
