Sheffield: Man jailed after being caught with gun and drugs
A man who was caught carrying a handgun, ammunition and drugs around Sheffield has been jailed for 11 years.
Hassan Mohammad, 23, of Edward Street, Sheffield, was found with the items by plain-clothed officers in January.
A search of his home also uncovered a large quantity of heroin and cocaine, South Yorkshire Police said.
Mohammad, who admitted a series of firearms and drug-related offences, was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.
The force said Mohammad came to the attention of officers on 24 January after they spotted a group of men "acting suspiciously".
He attempted to run away when approached, it added.
'Relentless criminal'
When officers told him that he would be searched, he admitted to having a black handgun and a small quantity of ammunition in his bag.
They also found a knife, drugs, £375 in cash and three mobile phones.
At a court hearing on 8 March, he pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He also admitted possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of criminal property.
Det Con Lisa Yates, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "Another relentless criminal has been taken off the streets and placed behind bars.
"Take this as a warning that if you have a gun, we will find you and you will be forced to face the consequences of your actions."
