Cramer track’s Houze, East Gaston softball’s McCorkle named area Athletes of the Week

Here are the Gastonia and Shelby area’s athletes of the week for March 20-25, as voted by readers of The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star.

Boys Athlete of the Week

Kamari Houze, Stuart Cramer track and field

Houze claimed top honors after receiving 28.3% of last week’s tally. During the week of March 20-25, the Storm speedster set a pair of personal records on his way to victory in the 100- (11.06 seconds) and 200 meters (23.26 seconds) at the Kings Mountain track meet.

Girls Athlete of the Week

Jordan McCorkle, East Gaston softball

McCorkle received 46.3% of last week’s vote en route to being named girls Athlete of the Week. During the week of March 20-25, the East Gaston slugger hit .714 with a home run, three doubles, four RBIs and a run scored. She is hitting .559 this season with seven home runs, two triples, seven doubles and 15 runs scored.
