Shelby County Clerk has plan to lessen wait times license and plate renewals

With wait times up to four hours when the clerk office is busiest, Wanda Halbert, the Shelby County Clerk, announced on Friday night a plan to curb in-person waiting for license and plate renewals, our Lucas Finton reports.

Operating under the phrase "No line, no wait," the plan is meant to act as a temporary fix to prevent long lines at various locations and will go into effect Tuesday morning. Lines will be slashed to accommodate between 15 and 20 customers at a time, with everyone else checking in and waiting for a phone call when they are ready to be served.

The NCAA presented a notice of allegations on Friday to the University of Tennessee, zeroing in on possible football recruiting violations under fired coach Jeremy Pruitt.

In the notice of allegations presented Friday to the university, the NCAA lists 18 violations and almost $60,000 of cash or gifts provided to players and their families by Pruitt, his wife and numerous coaches, recruiting staff and at least one booster, as reported by our sister paper, the Knoxville News-Sentinel, which obtained the 51-page document Friday.

Finally, the local movers and shakers were out Friday night to toast one of the region's biggest stars, Priscilla Presley.

The event also comes on the heels of the increased attention Memphis received during the promotions for Baz Luhrmann’s movie “Elvis,” including a visit to Graceland by the director and the cast, hosted by Presley herself
