Shelby County Election Commission confirms wins of Brooks and Clay Bibbs in recount

The Shelby County Election Commission confirmed the primary wins of two county commission candidates Thursday afternoon.

The Tennessee Democratic Party signed off on requests from Althea Greene and Eric Winston to recount the votes in the county commission District 7 and a review of voting machine tapes and paper ballots in the District 11 race.

Henri Brooks, the District 7 candidate, and Miska Clay Bibbs, the District 11 candidate, both had their wins confirmed Thursday.

"Recount teams determined that the certified results are correct," Linda Phillips, the administrator of elections for the Shelby County Election Commission said in a release.

Brooks won the District 7 Democratic primary by 76 votes and will face Republican candidate Shirelle-Dakota Brown in the August general election. Clay Bibbs won the District 11 Democratic primary by 18 votes and will have no challengers in the general election, hence securing the seat.
