October 28 2018 - A portion of Shelby County Jail at 201 Poplar is seen.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Saturday that one inmate is in critical condition, and another is in administrative segregation after an attack at the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center.

John Morris, sheriff's public information officer, said corrections officers discovered an injured inmate around midnight Nov. 18 and "lifesaving procedures were performed by staff until Memphis Fire Department paramedics arrived."

The injured inmate was transported in to Regional One Health, where he remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon, Morris said.

Preliminary information shows during an altercation between cellmates, and a detainee was seriously injured, he said.

Morris said the cellmate suspected of attacking the detainee was relocated to administrative segregation while the investigation continues.

The sheriff's office did not release the identities of the two people involved.
