SHELBY ― A Shelby man was killed Wednesday at the intersection of East Main Street and Roberts Drive after his motorcycle struck a vehicle.

Killed was Frederick T. Plew, 28, who was traveling southeast on East Main Street on a 2009 Honda Shadow motorcycle, according to the Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. A 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on Roberts Drive, driven by Carol Beer, 84, of Shelby.

The Chevrolet entered the intersection onto East Main Street, and was struck by the motorcycle, the patrol said in a news release. The crash occurred at 6:11 p.m. Wednesday.

Plew, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. Beer was uninjured.

The intersection of East Main Street and Roberts Drive was closed for about three hours during the investigation of the crash. The Shelby Police Department and Shelby Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Plew's body is being taken to the Montgomery County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for Plew's family.
