Shelby restaurant inspections: January-April critical violations

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by the Shelby City Health Department between January and April:

Mama's Pizza, 40 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, Jan. 23. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed Loctite super glue on food prep table. To prevent a chemical poisoning, all chemicals shall be stored separate and away from food/food prep. Employee removed from the area and stored correctly.

Nazarene Community Center, 111 E. Whitney Ave., Shelby, April 4. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed raw eggs above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in cooler. Worker moved eggs to bottom shelf.

Arby's 8633, 234 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, April 10. Insufficient air gap between the flood rim and the water supply inlet (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed piping from three-compartment sink below the flood rim of the floor drain. Provide an air gap to prevent contamination from back flow which could cause a foodborne illness. Employee raised the pipes out of the floor drain.

Diner 39, 180 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, April 14. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical). Observed ready-to-eat/TCS foods not dated to show the date by which the foods shall be consumed or discarded, which could cause a foodborne illness. Employee dated the food required.
