Sheriff: 1 killed after tree falls on Russell Co. home

RUSSELL COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – One person is dead after a tree fell on a home in Russell County Monday night.

According to Russell County Sheriff Bill Watson, deputies and rescue personnel were called to a home on Second Street in the Morefield Bottom area of the county after 10 p.m.

Watson said a tree had fallen on a double-wide trailer home, and two people were trapped inside.

One person was rescued from the home and transported to a local hospital.

According to Watson, the other person inside the home died as a result of the incident.

Russell County was hit by heavy winds Monday night, Watson told News Channel 11. Dispatchers reportedly received numerous calls of trees across roadways throughout the evening.
