Sheriff: 2 arrested in Stanislaus County on suspicion of infant child abuse

Two people were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of abusing their five-month-old daughter, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. The Empire couple, 22-year-old Tasawri Ellis and 21-year-old Isabella Ramirez, were booked on several felony charges, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies had been contacted by Child Protective Services Tuesday morning about a small child that needed urgent medical treatment in a nearby hospital. The child had to be taken to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera to be seen by specialists due to the severity of her injuries, officials said. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said the child had “well over a dozen fractures over a large majority of her body consistent with manual twisting, pulling, and squeezing of various limbs and the torso.” She is expected to survive, officials said.
