Sheriff: 3 deaths reported in Zogg Fire burning in Shasta County

Three deaths have been reported in the Zogg Fire burning in Shasta County, the sheriff’s office said Monday. “It is with a saddened heart that I come before you today to say we have had three deaths as a result of this fire thus far,” said Shasta County Sheriff Eric Magrini during Monday’s Cal Fire press conference. The coroner’s office is still working to identify the remains, the sheriff’s office said. No other details on the deaths were released. The Zogg Fire ignited southwest of Redding, off Zogg Mine Road and Jenny Bird Lane. It had more than doubled in size by Monday morning, charring an estimated 15,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.
