Sheriff: Ashland County under Level 2 snow emergency; only drive if necessary

With heavy snowfall overnight continuing today, Ashland County Sheriff E. Wayne Risner has issued a Level 2 snow emergency this morning.

Roadways are hazardous due to accumulated, blowing and drifting snow and roads may be very icy, according to the snow emergency, which adds that those in Ashland County should only drive if it is necessary to do so and employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work.

A winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday calling for heavy, wet snow overnight into Monday. The warning will remain in effect until 10 a.m. today with additional snow accumulations up to 2 inches bringing total accumulations of 3 to 7 inches in Ashland County, according to the NWS, which included surrounding counties Lorain, Morrow, Richland, Wayne, Holmes, Medina and Knox in this warning.
