BYESVILLE −A local man has been charged with felonious assault but could be facing a more serious charge following the death of the 73-year-old man injured in the incident, according to a press release from Guernsey County Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden.

Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from a Pioneer Road home shortly after 10 p.m. Jan. 20, according to the news release. The caller reported a man had been assaulted. Deputies arrived at the home and found a 73-year-old man had been assaulted by a male acquaintance identified as Bob D. Dailey, 58, who was still inside the home.

The elderly victim was transported by Byesville Volunteer Fire Department EMS to Ohio Health Southeastern Ohio Medical Center and Dailey was taken to the county jail and placed on a felony investigative hold.

Detectives later learned the victim was transferred to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus for further treatment due to the life-threatening injuries.

Dailey was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, on Jan. 23 and arraigned on Jan. 25 in the Cambridge Municipal Court. Bond was set at $100,000 with no 10% permitted. Later that afternoon, detectives were notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

Based on the death of the assault victim, detectives will be requesting further charges including murder be presented to a grand jury for consideration, according to Paden.
