Sheriff: Colfax man hangs himself in jail one day after arrest

A Grant Parish inmate hung himself with a bed sheet on Wednesday, later dying at a hospital.

Gregory Brevelle, 38, had been arrested on Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape, aggravated crimes against nature and oral sexual battery, according to the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office.

The release states deputies had interaction with Brevelle, a Colfax resident, throughout Wednesday.

"During routine checks, a deputy discovered that Brevelle had hung himself, using a bed sheet," it reads.

Deputies began CPR and called for an ambulance. He was taken to a hospital, but died there "a short time later," it reads.
