San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a 62-year-old inmate, at an Inland Empire hospital.

At 4:14 p.m. on Saturday, West Valley Detention Center deputies discovered that Keith Crossley was unresponsive in his cell.

Medical staff and deputies began life-saving measures on Crossley before he was taken to Inland Empire Hospital. He died at the hospital, sheriff’s officials said.

There were no apparent signs of drug use or trauma, and investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine Crossley’s cause of death, authorities said.

Crossley was arrested on Jan. 15 by the San Bernardino Police Department for a suspected assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation.

He was booked in at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino and later transferred to the West Valley Detention Center, where he remained until his death, sheriff's officials said.
